Biography

Rums & Bumbletons began in 1993 as an all original acoustic rock partnership between Stone Catcherye (vocals/guitar) and Dick Syn (lead guitar/vocals).

Fresh out of high school and just starting their college careers, they began playing coffee houses, bars and parties. Dick and Stone didn’t take long to fill out the band into an electric line up, recruiting Christopher Scott on bass and Mic Nicosia on drums. The 4 piece played live shows in and around Connecticut for a few years before splitting up only to reform with a new rhythm section a few years later. Dick Syn and Stone Catcherye, rounded out with James Clarke (drums), Josh French (bass) and Brandon Gibbons (guitar). This line up would last a few years as well, playing more coffee houses and bars.

Rums & Bumbletons’ embers once again burned out.

Fast forward about 4 years. Stone Catcherye somehow bumps into Dick Syn at a Tool concert in Massachusetts. Dick Syn is with his roommate and drummer, Delphi Finn. The three hit it off immediately and made plans to jam some of the Rums & Bumbletons songs to see how it feels. It worked and they recruited their last bass player, Josh French. He only lasted 2 rehearsals before he had to bail out due to having no time with his “day” job. Stone called his cousin Kramwell Ellavalled to come try out on bass. The band was full again, and back to a 4 piece.

Dick Syn, Delphi Finn, Kramwell Ellavalled and Stone Catcherye then played their ass off for the next decade, being honored as featured local artists on two Connecticut radio stations (WCCC & WMRQ), playing with some of Connecticut’s best talent at various pubs, bars and live music venues, appearing as the house band for a taping of the Scott Haney Show (CBS), opening for one of their favorite bands, Blind Melon, at The Webster Theatre in Hartford, and even releasing an EP called Ahrenbe.

The band once again took time off to work on raising families and experiencing “life” . . . . . .

January 2021, Stone Catcherye decides to, for the first time in his 30+ year music career, to play covers live. Rums & Bumbletons has never in 30+ years of music played more than 1 or 2 covers in a night, surviving most of their lives on playing their own original music which they have written.

Stone Catcherye & Dick Syn decided to do whole acoustic cover shows to get back to their roots. The two picks a whole bunch of songs which were both popular on the radio (remember that?) and which were big influences to them in their own music. A lot of 90s rock, or Grunge, as some call it, with some classic hits from the 70s and 80s as well.
Currently they have recruited a djembe player, Mit Hyland, to perform with them on their acoustic shows.

Dick, Stone & Mit are currently rehearsing for some live shows for the fall of 2021 and for spring of 2022. The trio is also planning some live recordings of these sets.
